Draco has spent most of the
past two days and evenings with Franklin and his wireless. He decided that he
needed a break and remembered that the basketball court was supposed to be open
today. So he walked part way, then apparated partway to Great Hangleton, and
walked the rest of the way to the highschool gym. There was a notice on the
door saying the court was closed as school had started back, but Draco undid
the lock with a nonverbal Alohomora and slipped inside.
The lights were off and the court was empty, but there was enough light coming
through the windows for him to see well enough. He took a ball off the rack and
began to dribble, passing the weight of the ball from one hand to another. His
mind was cluttered with things he should have, could have, wanted to have done,
so that all his thoughts were tripping over each other. But the rhythmic sound
of the ball impacting regularly with the gym floor seemed to be introducing
some rhythm to his thoughts as well.
Bellatrix had followed Draco, wondering what he
was up to. She lurked in the shadows for a few moments, and then magically sent
a basketball through the hoop. She stepped out of the darkness with a smirk on
her face.
"I didn’t know you liked Muggle sports, Draco," Bella said
with a slight smile.
Draco retrieved the ball and went back to
dribbling. "You should," he said coolly, not breaking his rhythm.
"You've been following me enough."
"Good point," Bella said and shrugged
her shoulders. "Someone has to watch out for you once in a while,"
she said and grabbed a ball.
"Have you made the potion yet?" she asked and shot.
Draco watched Bella's shot bounce off the rim.
He caught the ball as it bounced back. "Not yet," he said, dribbling
a couple of times before shooting. The ball fell neatly through the rim.
"I've been busy."
"Showoff," Bella muttered under her
breath.
"Well, what's been taking so long, Draco? You're done with the other
potion you were making, right? Don’t you want to get the family fortune from
Potter?" Bella asked, a little irritated.
Draco retrieved the ball again and continued to
dribble as Bella spoke. "It slipped my mind, honestly, but yes, there's a
lot of things I want to take from Potter." He shot the ball again and
watched it once again swish neatly through the net. "The potion will be
ready in three days."
"Good...Good, Draco. I'm glad to hear of
it," Bellatrix said with a smirk.
Draco returned Bella's smirk with one of his
own. He took the ball and began to bounce it, weaving around her. "Wanna
play a game, Aunt Bella?"
"I don’t see why not..." Bella said.
"And don’t take this as me liking Muggle sports...I am merely joining
you," she said with a slight smirk.
"Besides just shooting the ball through the hoop, I just bounce it around
and stuff?" Bella asked.
"More or less," Draco said. He got a
second ball and threw it to Bella. "You have to bounce, can't carry. We have opposite goals. Practice for a bit.
Takes a minute to get the feel of the ball, but it's a very simple game all in
all."
"Okay...this sounds easy enough,"
Bella said.
She tried dribbling the ball but was having trouble running while she did it.
After a few minutes, she managed to dribble the ball to the hoop, and tried to
shoot it through the hoop. When the ball bounced off the rim, her face drooped.
"Stupid Muggle game..." she mumbled under her breath.
Draco laughed. "It just takes
practice," he said. He did a running dribble to the other side of the
court and threw the ball at the goal, missing this time, but not bothered by
it. "Did you ever play Quidditch, Aunt Bella?"
