Getting up, Ron stretched, trying to set himself up for whatever was going to happen when he did finally talk to Hermione. She had been here for a day and hadn't said two words to him. It was actually making him quite upset, so deciding to get it over with, Ron walked down the stairs to Ginny's room. Knocking quietly, he leaned on the door frame when the door opened.

"Hey Gin. Hermione," he said, looking at both girls. Here goes nothing, he thought. "Uh, Hermione, can we talk?"

Hermione grinned, and handed off her wand to Ginny for Ron's own safety. “Sure.” She said, getting up and following Ron out. As soon as they were in the hall, she turned and looked up to him; a slightly daunting task with the rather adorable height differences. “What was it you wanted to talk about?”

"Uh, can we go outside? I don't much trust anything in this house for privacy anymore. Occupational hazard, I guess," Ron said, a small smile on his face.

Once they were outside, under the tree, Ron turned to look at her. "First, I would like to start off by apologizing for not personally inviting you here. I didn't know that it was such a big deal. I guess that there was more to it than the actual invitation. Let's thank Ginny for showing me that." Picking up a blade of grass, Ron twirled it between his fingers, a nervous habit. "And, I also wanted to say...Well, Ginny was talking, and with everything going on she wanted make sure that everyone knew how she felt. And it kind of, well, it kind of hit home," he said, looking up at her. "Where do we stand, Hermione?"

Hermione gulped and suddenly felt like sinking into the grass surrounding them. And now we circle... she thought in dismay. She knew how she felt and what she wanted to say, but resisted in fear of rejection. 'Would it shock you to hear that I've been planning on shanghaiing you for similar conversation?' She asked sheepish and pink.

"Uh, yes," Ron said, flushing a bit. He looked past her at the house as a surge of courage ran through him. "You know what, Hermione? I'm just going to say it. There's no need beating around the bush anymore. I . . . I like you Hermione. I have since second year. It was never too apparent to me, though, not until Yule Ball. With Viktor," he said, a bit of disdain in his voice. Shaking his head, he continued. "And, now, with everything going on, why should you not know? Who knows what's going to happen with You-Know-Who? We're all here today, but who's to say we're all going to be here tomorrow?" Picking at another piece of grass, he looked down. "I just thought you should know," he mumbled.

Hermione let loose a shriek that echoed across the yard. While barely allowing him to finish, she launched herself at Ron and wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in his hair. 'Y-You don't know how LONG I've waited to hear those words Ron!' The force of her assault had pushed them both backward, ending with her lying on top of Ron. She turned her head slightly and kissed his jawline, unable to reach his lips.

Ron looked up at her. "Well that was a much better reaction than I was expecting," he said with a grin. Pushing himself back up, he smiled. "So, how much is Ginny going to gloat?"

Hermione allowed herself to be pulled up, never releasing Ron. “Who cares if she gloats? It'll only be to you, she'll be happy for me.”

"I care if she gloats," he whined. "She always has to be right. It helps that she usually is, but still." Taking her hand in his, he smirked. "Thanks for letting me talk to you." After a second, he let out a sight. "You know who else is going to gloat? Harry."

“Oh well, Harry I have covered.” Hermione said with a grin as she walked back to the house with Ron. “I've been dropping hints that he like Ginny for nearly three years. He can just plain shut up.” She said, tip-toeing to plant a kiss on Ron's cheek. “Y'know,” she mused, “I don't think I'll ever tire of doing that.”

"Well, that's good to know, because I sure as Merlin know that I won't get tired of it." Ron stopped suddenly. "So you've been wanting this to happen for awhile, but you let me embarass myself with Lavender for the majority of last year? Thanks, Hermione," he said, smirking.

“OK, one: I TOLD you that I wanted to invite you to Slughorn's party, but you were the one who acted funny about it, and two: I figured I was pretty clear when I started using live animals to attack you. Who was I to become a how did you put it?” Hermione stopped and smirked. “A Scarlet Woman?” She arched a teasing eyebrow.

"No need to remind me of the Christmas party. McLaggen?! That's low." Ron paused. "Yeah, well I was a bit of a prat, wasn't I?"

“Yeah, just a wee bit.” Hermione grinned and leaned against Ron. “But ya know what? I wouldn't change you for the world.”

"Well that's a good thing. We better get back inside. I'm sure Ginny is having a small heart attack and I'm also sure she can't wait to squeal and tell you that 'she told you so'," he said, grinning and giving her a small kiss on the cheek.
