Dear
Mr. Zabini,
I would like to speak to you about your request to leave school for an extended
period of time for the broom racing circuit. Please come at your earliest
convince. I realize that I am not the Head of Your House, but I'm acting on
behalf of the Head Mistress.
Thank you in advance for you time,
Professor Tonks.

After he got the owl,
Blaise hurried to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom to speak to
Professor Tonks.
Tonks was standing behind her desk neatly stacking
the Second Years' papers on Blocking Spells, when she noticed Blaise walk into
the room.
"Thank you for taking time out of your day to come speak with me." Tonks
smiled warmly at the young Slytherin, trying to be as friendly as she could.
"I have here..." Tonks walked over to her filing cabinet, and tripped
a little over the uneven flooring near the cabinet, pulling out a piece of
parchment. "A formal request for
you to take time off of your schooling to enter a broom race competition."
Tonks moved back over to her desk and sat on top of it.
"I'm afraid it is the Headmistress' decision that you cannot take the time
out of your education. Your request has been denied. I'm sorry." She gave
the most sympathetic look she could muster.
Blaise clenched his fist by his side as anger
flooded him. No wonder the headmistress had not wanted to speak to him herself.
He tried to force himself to be calm. "It's only week. I can catch
up."
"It's not about whether or not you can
catch up. Because we believe you can, no problem. But with what's going on out
in the world today, we are not going to risk putting you in danger. I am
sorry." Tonks saw how upset he was, and hoped that he could see it from
their perspective.
"It's my risk," he said coldly. He
refused to whine, but this was so unfair. He wished people would stop trying to
protect him. He was seventeen. Why did they insist on treating him like a
child? First Draco...wait, hadn't Malfoy said something about... "I'm of
age," he added in a last attempt to sway Tonks.
"You may be of age Mr. Zabini, and I
understand how frustrating this must be, but you have to understand that as
long as you are at this school, we are responsible for your well being, and we cannot
let you leave." She looked at the Blaise with sympathy, but at the same
time she was getting rather frustrated with him. Didn't he understand what was lying
outside of these stone walls?
"Bit like Azkaban," Blaise observed,
before turning on his heels and stalking off. He didn't care what she said. He was
going.
