"Bill!" Charlie
yelled at his brother's door. "What are you doing in there, we have to get
going!"
Charlie had finished getting ready 20 minutes ago and was waiting (rather
impatiently) to get to London. Their 'appointment' was at 8, and it was
currently 7:45. They could apperate fairly close to their final destination,
but it had to be in a secluded area, and then they had to walk to the pub.
Charlie went back to his room and grabbed a white button down shirt to wear
over his dark grey screen tee, it was starting to get a little cold at night.
He walked a little further down the hall as he donned the button up and
approached Ron's door. "Ron," Charlie said after he knocked, "if
you want to go, we're leaving whenever Bill is ready."
Charlie had sent out a massive invite to anyone he and Bill had ever considered
to be a friend; including Harry and his [male] friends.
Hopefully everyone was feeling the urge to get totally blitzed and forget about
the recent events; he was fairly sure that the twins would make a cameo, wheras
Percy had been omited completely. Charlie had entertained the thought of
inviting him, but he decided that if Percy were really interested in his
family, he would have made contact a long time ago.
"BILL!" He yelled one more time, as he descended the stairs.
Opening the door, Ron looked out at Charlie.
"Of course, I'm coming. Let me change my shirt real quick," he said,
closing the door again.
A few minutes later, he was walking down the stairs, flopping onto the couch.
Ron smiled while Charlie continued yelling for Bill.
When Harry returned from his visit with McGonigall, the
Burrow seemed even more crazed, and this time without any Delacour girls at the
helm of it all. Charlie was yelling at Bill to get up. He suspected they were
about to embark on Bill's bachlor party that he was invited to, and the girls
were looking suspicious. Just as he stepped past the threshold into the Burrow,
a large tawny owl appeared on the sill in the kitchen with a letter for
himself. He didn't recognize the handwriting, and so he dashed upstairs, away
from people, to read it without any wandering eyes.
When he finished the owl from Neville, Harry swallowed thickly. He seemed to
feel like, with Dumbledore really gone, people were turning to him for advice
and questions. He was just about to head into Ron's bedroom to hide the note,
when as soon as he reached for the knob, the door flung open and Ron stepped
out in a clean shirt.
"Oy, you guys are leaving now?" he spoke to Ron as his bet friend
seemed ready for the night. Harry, unfortunatly, was still in his muddy
trainers, ripped jeans, and wrinkled t-shirt. He wanted to go, but it seemed
that they were all ready rushing to get out. He'd never gotten drunk before,
but somehow the idea of it seemed more and more intriguing to him.
"Soon, mate. I don't even think Bill's up
yet, and he's pretty much the reason for the night. You still have time if you
hurry up and get changed," Ron said, edging out of the room. Stopping, he
looked at the note in Harry's hand and the look on his best mate's face.
"You ok?"
"Y-yeah ... I'm fine." Harry tucked
the note away in his pocket, pretending it wasn't anything important.
"I'll be down in a minute ... " he then turned quickly into the
bedroom, closing the door softly in Ron's face. When Ron's footsteps were heard
descending the steps, Harry sighed heavily. He walked to Ron's desk and wrote
up a quick reply to Neville's owl saying simply that he would see him at the
wedding.
Without Hedwig, Harry wondered who to send this with, when a clattering was
heard in the corner. Pigwidgeon was fluttering madly for attention under Ron's
old dress robes. He pulled the crazy owl out and tied the very small note to
the birds leg, "I sure hope you're up to the task ... " Pig gave him
a confident hoot and darted out of the window.
Harry rushed about to get dressed, tried and failed miserably to fix his hair,
and headed down stairs where all the red heads, now plus one brunette, were gathered.
"I'm ready, let's go!"
Once
Bill had managed to slip away from the office, he decided that it would be in
his best interest to take a powernap before the night began. He knew he
wouldn't end up with a lot of sleep and he was not looking forward to looking
tired along with having his face still littered in scars at his day of
marriage.
Unfortunately, the nap ended up going into overtime and had put his brother on
a hold, which he didn't enjoy doing to any of his valued family members. Though
this time, he didn't have much of a choice. The first time Charlie
"knocked" on his door (which more or so sounded like an elephant
stampeding) at 7:00, he thought for sure he was in trouble.
Kicking it into overdrive, Bill nearly dived into the shower and almost tore
apart the room him and Fleur shared to find something good enough for his last
night as a free man. But naturally, this was only far too easy for the man with
taste and class.
Hearing his brother call from the steps, he brushed out his hair and placed it
back into a neat ponytail, spritzed on a very little amount of cologne and was
out his door following Charlie only a couple feet behind. "Sorry bro, I
was dead tired, almost didn't hear you the first time. I'm ready though, should
we perhaps inform mum?" A silent pause between the two of them as they
faced off at the question and simultaneously shook their heads with a stout,
"No."
With that settled, they were ready and raring to go. The night was young, and
he intended to suck it dry.
"Alright, a few things to remember."
Charlie clapped a hand on Ron's shoulder. "When we say you've had enough,
that's it. You need to be able to actually remember your first night of Legal
fun."
Charlie turned to Bill next. "I'm sure you know how many people have been
invited, but you need to know that Perce wasn’t one of them. Keep that in your
head, I know how emotional you get when you're drunk." He smiled roguishly
at that last bit before he clapped his hands together and threw his arms around
this two brother's shoulders and walked in between them.
"As for me, I've appointed myself as the Designated Apparator. I'll be
drinking, of course, but I need to make sure that people can get home at the
end of the night."
"Charlie, I can handle my liquor. I know
when to stop. You act as though I haven't partaken in nights of illegal fun
before," Ron said, rolling his eyes.
Bill had a silly grin on his face in
anticipation for the night's events. He couldn't help but be giddy, but at the
same time nervous. Let's all hope that he didn't think too much into the
upcoming day or his ability to hold liquor could get a little tricky.
Rolling his eyes over at Charlie, he scoffed. "Emotional? Right, and the
last time we had been out drinking, weren't you the one that professed your
undying love for a lamp shade?" Before laughing a bit, perhaps he could
get emotional, but only in emotional situations.
As they started to take the night on, he smiled at Harry who was in the foyer
waiting for them. "Oi! Harry, I'm glad you're going to be coming! I'm sure
we'll all have stories to tell on my 10th anniversary! Any sooner, I can't
promise your safety from Fleur." Grabbing Harry by the shoulder much like
he would to his own brothers.
"Oh, Charlie, where are we going anyhow? Seamus, a friend of Harry and Ron
has requested to join, we need to owl him the place and whatnot. Gotta follow
through with my motto and such, no leaving a man behind, especially with girls
involved." Nudging his brother in the ribs with a grin.
Harry blushed quite impressively at that. He
didn't expect Bill to ever mention Harry and Fleur's name in the same sentence,
especially when she was so soon to be his wife. "I ... uh, heh ... "
he nervously laughed and stuck his hands into his back pockets. He licked his
lips and idly wondered if this was a good idea. He had so much on his mind,
though. A little fun wouldn't hurt.
"Well forgive me, oh deviant of the night
life!" Charlie said with a good natured grin towards his youngest brother.
"I just want Bill's night to run as smoothly as it can."
"As for that Lamp shade, it was love man, pure and simple." He said
with a wistful look in his eyes- which disappeared as he started to laugh.
"I've owled Seamus already; we're going to a place called The Wicklow."
* * *
* * * *
The moment they walked into
The Wicklow, it was as if the world slipped away and they were transported the
world of lovely girls and their weapons of alcohol weapons. A goofy grin
crossed Bill's face as he looked around, it was a rather nice little place. It
wasn't as dirty as most dives, not the cleanest, but it was just right. They
wouldn't feel too bad when they ended up spilling a good amount of their
purchased alcohol on the floor.
Turning to his brothers, Seamus (whom they had caught up to outside the
tavern), and Harry he clapped his hands together rubbing them vigorously.
"Well boys! The games begin! Rule number one, if any fights manage to
break out, a fairly comment tact with good old Charles, we've got yer back. Oh
right, no touching the girls," taking a moment to look down towards Harry
and Ron, though he knew they wouldn't dare touch a women in such a setting.
"Also, a little motto that you should take to the grave. Beer before
liquor, never sicker, liquor before beer, never fear. And above all else, have
a jolly good time!"
With the rules laid down, it was now a smashing good time to kick it off right,
perhaps a shot, or six.
Harry rolled his eyes in Bill's direction.
Really, now. Would he think of touching these women? Once again, he wondered
why he decided to come. With one quick glance around the smokey, stale beer
smelling atmosphere, Harry wondered how long it would take before he was sick
of the place. But before he could protest, the Weasleys were shoving him towards
the bar and Bill had ordered a round of shots.
Never having had more than butterbeer his entire life, this party was sure to
be one great big catastrophe for the just-of-age Harry Potter.
"Bill, some of us, most of us, have females
back home who would rip body parts off if they found out we so much as looked
as a girl in here. You, my brother, are in that category. Fleur would kill you.
Mum would kill you." Ron grinned at his brother. "Before we all get a
bit pissed, I just wanted to congratulate you, Bill," Ron said, wiping a
fake tear, before he threw his arm around Harry's shoulder.
"I don't know what you're thinking, mate. But stop."
Despite his wedding day jitters, Bill was
looking forward to the night ahead, including the morning (even with the
hangover), and the afternoon which would be the cake and icing combined. This
was just the pre-dinner mints.
He turned to Ron with a snicker. "Right, well mum has never managed to
keep me in line, tonight would be no different, and as for Fleur, whom I love
to death until I die, tonight will be as chaste as any. It's just a show,
brother dear, enjoy it. That's the whole point of all the fancy fanfare."
Slapping his brother on his back, with affection. "We're here for a good
time, not to cheat on the people we love dearly." Before shoving a shot
glass into his brother's hand. Honestly, mum would probably be far more furious
to know that Charlie and Bill were encouraging the drinking.
The clank of glasses started with his and Ron's, cheering on the happy times he
was about to fall upon. "This, my dearest friends and family, is the night
of joy!"
There should be a game, to see how many times Bill would say the word
"joy" through the entire night.
Growing a little anxious with his best mate
there, Harry felt like he couldn't be himself. Knowing that Ron was dating
Hermione, he was sure to tell her everything that Harry was doing, and no doubt
Hermione would tell Ginny. But, did he really care what Ginny thought? They
weren't together ...
He elbowed Ron in the side, a bit harder than usual. "I'm not thinking.
I'm drinking ... " Harry grabbed up the shot and downed it. The burning
sensation caught in his throat and he choked and sputtered on his first shot of
whiskey. When he finally got his coughing under control, he slammed the shot
glass back down on the bar top. "Another one, please ... " He shot a
slightly dark glare at his best friend before turning to look at a few girls
dancing rather provocatively on poles.
Having started a tab, Charlie grabbed his first,
and probably only shot of the night. He turned around and leaned against the
slightly damp bar and watched the group.
Harry by far seemed to be the most displaced of the younger crowd. Charlie
decided that he better keep a special eye out for him.
Picking up his second shot, Harry glanced away
from the girls to Charlie who had just received his own. Harry rose his glass,
"Cheers!" and clanked his slightly full glass against Charlie's own,
smiling mischievously.
Seamus raced back from the bar, two Irish Car
Bombs in his hands. "Okay, Charlie. You know how to do one of these?"
He downed more Guinness, and started up an old Irish Drinking Song he knew from
some of his Muggle friends.
"When I was a little boy my mother always told me
’Way, haul away, we’ll haul away Joe
That if I did not kiss the girls my lips would all grow moldy
’Way, haul away, we’ll haul away Joe!"
The Car Bombs, their definite descent in the
evil. But neverthemind, Charlie grabbed the one Seamus presented him, and with another
clink of the glass and toast of joy.
Slamming it on the table with a grin as Seamus started up a drinking song.
"Oi! Some old goblin taught me that one not too long ago at a local
pub!" And he took yet another shot of whiskey, it was now a race to glory.
That and a good song to raise their voices to.
"Once in my life I married a wife but she was fat and lazy…
Then I met an Irish girl, she damn near drove me crazy…
’Way, haul away, we’ll haul and sing together
’Way, haul away, we’ll haul away Joe
Once I was in Ireland, a-digging turf and taters
But now I’m on a Limey ship, a-hauling on the braces
St. Patrick drove away the snakes, then drank up all the whiskey
This made him dance and sing a jig, he felt so fine and frisky
’Way, haul away, we’re bound for better weather
’Way, haul away, we’ll haul away Joe"
Swaying a stout beer mug in his hand, chilled with frost clinging to the side,
in the traditional manner custom for a drinking song.
Charlie returned Harry's smile and downed his
second shot. As he slammed the small glass down on the table, Seamus handed him
another drink.
"Well, I hadn't planned on actually drinking tonight, but what the
Hell." He laughed and raised his glass at Seamus before he dropped in the
Bailey's and whiskey. "To Bill!" He yelled and then chugged.
After Harry's second shot - really, it was more
like 1 and a half shots, considering how much he sputtered his first one - he
was already beginning to feel a bit wobbly.
He smiled and listened to the not nearly drunk enough Seamus and Bill already
begin their drinking songs. Harry asked the bar tender for something different,
to which he replied with a bottle of rum. Harry looked at the pirate captain
with an eye patch, peg leg, and brilliantly well curled mustache and figured,
if it's good enough for that fine chap, then it was good enough for himself. He
filled the shot glass himself and tipped back yet another drink. Gasping and
coughing minimally, Harry felt his eyes water and laughed it off.
Seamus watched Harry take a swig of something
that just looked strong, and immediately start a coughing fit. Seamus
laughed hard, and laughed a bit too hard, as he fell out of his chair. He
attempted to climb back up, and as he sat back down reached for another shot.
he downed that, slamming his glass on the table. "I have no idea what I
just drank." He said, his words finally starting to slur. “Okay! Something
else!"
Humming to himself at the great times he was
already having, accepting drinks from friends with little tinks of glasses in
congrats towards his marital bliss, Bill couldn't help but enjoy himself.
Opening his eyes, they finally focused (though the double vision had started
nearly two drinks ago), onto one of the strippers. Upon which he already
thought it would be wonderful to enjoy. Well, visually, nothing more. Even
while drunk he would never betray the faith others had in him, more or so,
Fleur.
Nevertheless, he watched with glee. She looked like a cowboy, though the silver
chaps and hat made it enough for the bar. Waving a couple bits o' money to her,
he grinned as he was given some special attention.
Turning, he tugged onto Charlie's sleeve and whispered to him. "Can you
see that?" And by the drunken stupor look he got from his brother, he
continued. "Her eyes...I can see, her SOUL."
Ron laughed at Harry before he, himself, downed
a second shot, his face contorting into the patented "shot face".
Looking at Harry, Ron tried to keep a straight face, but there was no point.
Soon he was doubled over in laughter. "Charlie, when I told you that I
could hold my alcohol, I think I lied," he said, looking down at his older
brother, grinning widely.
Charlie leaned back in his chair. Well, back
into Bill, really and looked at 'The Silver Bullet'. "Bill, mate. How many
drinks have you had tonight?"
There was the classic, drunken, half lidded,
expression as Bill focused on Charlie for a second, he blinked and was still
for a second, before waving his arms up in maniacal manner, moving his hands in
an erratic fashion. His eyes going a bit bug-eyed, "A Hundred!!!!!"
Said in a lower voice before, comical in more way than one.
He tried his damnedest to keep a straight face, but the moment he saw Ron fall
into a fit of giggles, he followed right after.
Ron was laughing, Bill was laughing, and Seamus
look another drink, swaying a bit in his chair. Harry had just tripped Charlie,
and at that Seamus doubled over laughing. "Watch it Bi..Charlie. One of
you, anyway. He shook his head. "Harry, you should..." He trailed off,
looking at the shiny light moving in the corner.
For a good long while, Bill was staring at
"The Silver Bullet". Giving her what money she needed to raise her
family of two children and a mutt for a dog, least that's the story he told
himself so as not to burn up in hell.
But upon hearing, and finally seeing Harry flailing and Charlie stumbling to
the ground, he laughed some more, sloshing a bit of his drink before turning to
Seamus, who seemed to be as far away as possible.
Clamping a firm hand about the Irish boy, he grinned. "Seamus O'Maley, I
believe you're as drunk as a bloody skunk."
"YES! Yes, I'm O'Maley. Wait, I thought I
was Seamus? and I am NOT drunk! I'm...What was I saying?"
He took another drink. "I just like the pretty lights. See?" He said,
pointing. "There it is again!"
Giving Seamus such a stiff pat on the back
almost spilled the boy's entire drink. Though he was focused on finishing the
rest of his own. "Follow the light boy, it will lead you to something.
Though it's probably just a coin on the floor. Perhaps, the luck o’ da irish is
in you!"
Bill, was no longer making any sense. But he was still talking, where it seemed
Charlie and Harry had stopped, though they were going about some jibberish. At
that point, Harry was almost laying completely on the bar, looking exhausted,
and rather well, smashed.
"I'm Irish? You said I was drunk." He
looked at the spilt drink with a forlorn look on his face. "You spilt my
drink." He looked as if he were about to cry. Then suddenly, he stood up.
"That’s okay! I'll just get another." He had a grin on his face that
was way too wide. He was swimming now, and he laughed quietly as he looked over
at Harry, who was now atop the bar. Seamus thought he was singing, but he
couldn't be sure
Ron set the glass from his fourth, fifth, or
sixth shot down. He didn't know. He's stopped counting. He hadn't actually
started. Leaning against the bar, Ron tried to get his vision to stop doing
weird things. Focusing his eyes, he looked at two of his older brother, his
best mate, and a good friend/dorm mate.
"This is bloody fantastic," he said to absolutely no one. "And
to think, the girls wanted to leave me with Fred and George tonight. Like I
need to be left with anybody," he said, slurring quite a bit.
"You're a bloody drunk Irishman! That
shouldn't have been hard to figure out, you silly git!" The bartender just
seemed to pass him more and more. He figured he was nearing the double digits,
but it seemed perhaps, it would be rather clever to stop at a lower number.
He cheered on Charlie as he did a little jig that went to the song Harry
managed to sing, which oddly enough, wasn't nearly as bad as it could be! Bill
then turned his brotherly attention onto Ron, pulling him into a hug. "I
love you, you silly little fellow. Like, the son I never had." Ah, Charlie
wasn't far off about the emotional bit.
Seamus slammed down another shot, and sat back.
"Wow, that was a good one. I think I'm a bit drunk." Then he burst
out laughing, as Harry launched into the chorus. "Hehe, you're
funny." He couldn't remember how much he had to drink, but at the moment
it didn't matter. He was having a good night with his best mates. It couldn't be better
"Son you never had? You're a bloody, pissed
tosser, Bill. Just so you know," Ron said, rolling his eyes and grinning.
Pushing Bill away, he motioned for the bartender to bring him another drink.
"Bloody brilliant," he said, placing the now empty glass back on the
bar.
The song from Harry didn't seem to last long, in
almost 10 to 15 minutes flat, Harry had gone from a rousing song to resting his
head on the bar, totally passed out. Charlie was still enjoying himself, but he
had started helping people home. But the ripe old strike of twenty past one, it
was down to him, Seamus, Ron, and a few of his friends. With that, he gathered
one more drink and lifted it to the others.
"Well, I couldn't ask for a better..nightslike this." Slurring like a
sailor. "Imma give it up to my bros.." hiccup, "without you old
bunch, I donno how I'd manage. I'm as happy as ever, marryin the girl of my
bloody dreams, and you guys there to enjoy it. Man, I reckon I couldn't be
better off!!!" Giving a cheer to the remaining posse and dowing that final
drink of the night.
"Get home safe ya'll." Though he would help Charlie assist Seamus,
Ron, and Harry back to their proper places.
"Cheers!" Seamus gulped down one more
drink. "Well said, Bill!" Harry was passed out, Ron was grinning,
and...He wasn't sure what Charlie was doing. He could barely see straight.
"Indeedagoodnight...I wonder if I'll remember it. Hey Ron, weddings
tomorrow, or today. TODAY!" He gestured wildly at the clock. "It’s
actually today, but much later today. I think..." He paused for a moment,
then remembered he was asking something, and resumed. "CAn I just pass out
at the burrow tonight? I go home, me Mam will kill me. And I dont wantto show
up at the wedding dead. That would not be good. No, no it wouldn't."
Ron threw his arm around Seamus' shoulders.
"Of course, mate. We have plenty of space. Ok, not plenty, but we'll find
you a place to sleep. We could stick someone in with the girls if need be.
We'll be passing out anyways, right? Riiiiiight," Ron said, walking
towards the door. Stopping he turned around. "Bloody good time, mates.
Bloody good time," he said before turning and staggering out of the door.
Seamus stumbled after Ron. "Yeahh, passing
out. I wanna pass out." He followed Ron to the apparation point, and
Charlie helped them back to the burrow. "bloody hell, this was fun. Right
Henry? I mean Harr..." But Harry was already out, and Charlie carried him
to where he as sleeping. "Ron, it was fun."
After the 4th shot of Captain Morgan's, Harry
felt the blurred vision intensify. He thought, for a moment there, his scar was
actually hurting. Panic rose deep inside of him, nearly scaring himself sober.
He jumped out of his seat and ran smack into Charlie, who toppled over in his
own drunken stupor. Forgetting about his scar the moment he turned around to
see Charlie, flailing around on the ground like a turtle that had been up-ended
onto its shell, Harry pointed and burst out laughing, his face shining with a
drunken rouge.
After the song from Seamus and Bill had died down, Harry helped Charlie up off
the floor and grabbed a drink for both of them and began his own drinking song.
It sounded like he was making it up on the spot, but everyone was too drunk to
care. After Charlie did his accompanying jig, Harry downed an entire pint of
beer, sloshing a good deal of it down his front.
A wave of wooziness came over him and he had to sit down. He also thought that,
perhaps he ought to just lay his head down, because the room wouldn't stop
spinning. He folded his arms onto the bar top and settled his face in the dark
chasm that his arms create. In no time, he was drowning out the last remaining
sounds of the bar.
Little did he know how much he would regret this come morning at the Burrow.
